Day 168 - Abducted By Aliens Taken with the Nikon D90 and the Nikon 50mm 1:1.8. Edited in Lightroom.

_DSC5268 About a week ago I started to experiment with using a snoot on my SB900 flash. To start with, I just used a piece of paper, and it worked great. But like any tech geek worth his pocket protector, I wanted to take it to the next step. I bought a HONL knockoff on ebay. It arrived yesterday. I payed a little of $10 for it including shipping. I’m very happy with the result.

_DSC5269 I’m planning on picking up a few other light modifiers from the same seller. Some flags and grids will be fun to play with, and as far as equipment goes, it will be some of the cheapest toys I can buy for photography.

As for the photo, I wish I had tried a second light behind for a slight rim light, to set off more of the hair. I’m going to have to play with that another time.

This model is really easy to work with. He never complains. But I’m almost sure he was abducted by aliens because he doesn’t say much, he always looks freaked out and he has a strange implant on his underside.

  1. Cute little guy. I haven't gotten into the strobe thing much but need to.

  2. Great shot! Your model does look a bit out of the ordinary. Looks like he's afraid of the light coming towards him! :)
