Is it looking up, down or just a bad case of vertigo? See day 17…

Where did I get such a strange name for a photo. James Jr. started basketball practice this week. Today was his first game. He made 2 baskets for 2 points each. His jersey number is 44, and today is day my day 88. No, it’s not a math problem. It just some fun with numbers.
The photo is of a time out, when the coach was talking to them. James Jr’s team won 23 to 13.

The father of one of my dearest friends passes way last Saturday. His funeral was today. He was a kind, gentle and loving man who brought light into everyone life with whom he had contact. He will be remembered with much fondness.
Pictured is his widow, holding the flag that was presented to her in honor of his service to the country.

A little winding path is there
That calls me when I roam,
A little path all worn and bare,
The path that leads to home.
How dear the memories that cling-
An open door…love beckoning!
- Mabel Law Atkinson
That is a poem by my grandmother. She was a very talented poet. I never knew her, she passed away before I was born. But I know her in spirit. She and I share a deep love for words.

I love language. I love to ‘collect’ words from many different languages. It’s kind of a game to me to see how many different words I can pick up in different languages.
I also feel like I’ve been suffering from a lack of words. I mean, the words don’t come to me (English or otherwise) like they used to. I don’t normally lack for words. I usually always have a lot to say…too much to say, but lately the words get stuck somewhere.
Reminds me of a story from when I was a kid. I was taking German in school. There was a language fair and I was going to compete in the poetry competition. I had my poem memorized. I can still remember it to this day…at least I can remember the title, “Rosa Rosa Rosa Rot.” It was about a red Rose. I got on stage in front of many other students from many different schools…and I froze…my mind went blank. I sat down in humiliation. And just when I sat down…I remembered.
Well, I guess that’s all for today…I had something else I was going to say, but I can’t remember what it was.
