D048 - Skeleton and the Roundabout Taken with iPhone Camera. Edited with CinemaFX, PhotoStudio and Photogene.

I had a routine doctors appointment today and so I was just going to photograph a picture of the waiting room while I was waiting for the doctor to come in, but then I saw this cool model skeleton, with some dramatic light falling behind it and I couldn’t help but snap a few pictures of it.

D047 - Portraits Taken with iPhone Camera. Edited with CinemaFX, Tiffen Photo Fx and Photogene.

Day 47 Today I had the chance to take a photo of my wife’s sister’s family. I was hoping to have enough daylight left to take a fun photo outside, but when we finally got together, it was too dark. So plans that I had for the family portrait didn’t exactly work out. I tried a few different things and finally came up with the photo seen to the right.

Pictured is the iPhone photo is Landon, their little boy. In the family portrait left to right is Landon, Jeff, Jessica (Sarah’s sister) and Aubrey.

Whenever I get the chance, I love to take photos of cats, so while I was at it today I also took some photos of my kitty, as well as my mother-in-law’s kittys.

All but the top photo on today’s post was taken with my DSLR. Sometimes I’m focusing (ha ha very punny) too much on my iPhone and don’t giving my DSLR enough time.

D046 - Your Side of My World Taken with iPhone Camera. Edited with Tiffen Photo Fx.

Day 46 Outtakes Nothing overly artistic and cool today. Just wanted to take a picture of my work space at home…my own little corner of the world. I’m a bit of fanatic about technology…even old technology. In the upper left hand side is my turn table, where I can still play vinyl records when I get the itch. To the right of that is the stereo amplifier. To the right of that is an honest to goodness tape deck. Yes, I can still play tapes… Three of the six computers in the house sit right here too. You will also notice the old Underwood Standard Portable Typewriter on the right hand side. I have it there just for decoration right now. I don’t find myself using it very much. :)

Day 46 Outtakes Today’s photo was an exercise in camera stabilization. The iPhone (obviously) has not tripod mount, so sometimes it’s hard to get a nice crisp photo, especially from strange angles or low light. So I rigged a work around with 2 rubber bands and small plastic box. It worked out rather well. I’ll be able to take some night photography now…at least some of it.

Day 46 Outtakes Here is the original…before processing.

Title of today’s post was inspired from a song by Joe Henry‘s tiny voices album.

D045 - Paint It Black Taken with iPhone Camera.

Today, the day after Thanksgiving is known as “Black Friday” in the US. It sounds so sinister. And the name actually has a double meaning. For one, the name conjures images of shopping frenzies, camping out all night in front of a store, and general retail mayhem. But the lighter side of Black Friday, and where the name actually comes from is that many retail stores don’t turn a profit until today, thus the reference to black.

The photo shows the time I woke my wife so that she could start the day of shopping…That AM!. Needless to say, I don’t get into the shopping spirit much except for perhaps bargain shopping online. Two years ago, however, I camped out in front of a store all night so that I would be sure to be able to buy one of the only available Nintendo Wii game consoles. That’s a really good memory.

Simple photo today. No processing at all. I played with some different treatments, but in the end decided that it just didn’t need anything. I liked it the way it was…how unusual.

The trouble with this time of year is how busy it gets. Makes my head spin.

D044 - Giving Thanks Taken with iPhone Camera. Edited with CinemaFX and Photogene.

It’s Thanksgiving day here in the U.S. A time for family and friends to gather together and eat! It seems like all holidays revolve around food, but Thanksgiving is espesially focused on food, lots and lots of food.

Today we are spending the day at my wife’s sisters house. Pictured here is my wife, Sarah and her sister, Paulina. (Sarah is the blonde). Thankfully, people around me are getting used to me pointing a camera their way.

On this day of Thanksgiving, I want to thank everyone who seasons my life with kindness and freindship. Thank You!

Manual: have to get to it later. I’m away from home today.

D043 - Here Comes The Sun Taken with iPhone Camera. Edited with CinemaFX and Photogene.

The sun was just coming over the mountains as I drove into work this morning. I pass a small (perhaps man-made) lake and decided right then and there that even if it meant that I would be 10 minutes late to work, I was going to go take photos by that body of water. It was worth it. I’m glad I did. I didn’t take many. And of course they are just iPhone pictures, but the warmth really surprised me. The photo here, I darkened a little in post because I just liked it better that way.

Fellow 365-er Challenge: I would like to make a challenge to other 365-ers who might be reading this. U.S. followers know that tomorrow is Thanksgiving, which for me officially begins the holiday season. This realization started me thinking about traditions. We all have them: social traditions, family traditions, etc. I would like to challenge my fellow 365-er to document these traditions in their photographs. You can be sure you will see a lot of Thanksgiving photos tomorrow, but what other ones do we have that maybe we don’t even think about. (For some reason the soundtrack from Fiddler on the Roof is playing in my head) Example…Black Friday…the day after Thanksgiving. It’s the business U.S. shopping day of the year. I didn’t say it had to be a good tradition. :) So over the next month or so I challenge you to share you traditions with all of us.

D042 - Glass Onion Taken with iPhone Camera. Edited with CinemaFX and Photogene.

I decided to try some architectural photography today. The subject is the Salt Lake City public library. It’s a beautiful modern building. It’s a little ways from work, but I can drive there in less than 10 min. Spend 30 minutes on the 4th floor looking through cool photography books, and make it back to work in another 10 min. If you are keeping track, that leaves me 10 min to grab a burger. :) It’s a bit of a rush, but it’s good to get out of the office and get some fresh air.

D041 - That Which Does Not Kill Us... Taken with iPhone Camera. Edited with Tiffen Photo Fx.

This photo really makes me think about the forces of nature. On the one hand, we have the snow and cold bearing down. On the other, we see signs of life and the promise of what is to come in the spring. Is there any doubt that spring will come? Some days it might feel like it won’t. But even the the most die-hard pessimist would bet on the eventual arrival of spring.

D040 - Depressed Taken with iPhone Camera. Edited with CinemaFX

Like the keys of an old typewriter, we all go through many ups and downs. Sometimes the keys can get stuck in the down position. But what can free the keys to move smoothly? If I knew the perfect answer to that, I would be a counselor or psychologist instead of an artist and photographer. Hopefully we all have people watching us, who can recognize when we are stuck down.
